What is this website?
bf4life-hearing is a blog/community created for t(w)eens who are deaf/hoh and who want to connect with other t(w)eens who are deaf/hoh, as well as learn about hearing loss in the 21st-century. The purpose of bf4life-hearing is to break down the stigma and the stereotypes (example myth: it is a disability that affects only the elderly!) attached to hearing loss and push hearing loss into the 21st-century, away from the Helen Keller associations.

Where does the name come from?
The name bf4life-hearing is representative of what this website is. A bf4life is a friend who you will stay in touch with and with whom you are connected. Similarily, this website is for teens who will make friendship with others with whom they share the bond of their  hearing loss. That is why the site is bf4life minus hearing because here you will make friends who also have a hearing loss.

Who is the editor?
Arielle Schacter is an average 17-year-old (with way too much homework), who just happens to have a moderate-to-severe hearing loss. She wants to transform the perception of hearing loss from a disability that only affects the elderly (... or even the "Helen Keller" generation) to something that also includes t(w)eens. Her own experiences of not knowing any t(w)eens who are deaf/hoh, as well as her desire to be able to vent to about migraines [caused by her hearing loss] made her build this website. She is tired of the fact that the first thought people have about hearing loss is Helen Keller/Marlee Matlin/elderly, yet is passionate about affecting the world positively. She is a chocoholic, fashionista, Netflix-watcher who just wants to see captions on all videos online, especially her favorite: Gossip Girl. To see her work, click HERE.

Queries, comments, news or whatever deaf/hoh-related can be sent to: bf4lifehearing@gmail.com.

What is the comments policy?
While bf4life-hearing loves your commentary on the different blog posts or in the forum, we moderate comments on news stories and blog posts and reserve the right to remove any comments that are public advertisements, hateful, or threatening towards others.

How old do you have to be to use this site?
While there is no age required for one to look at the blog, you must be at least TWELVE and no older than NINETEEN to use the social network! (I do check everyone out personally, with a fully extensive Google background check... so I will know how old you really are! :) )

Terminology
Yes, bf4life-hearing has its own (strange) language ... In order to understand the jargon, some must know words/abbreviations include the following:
         1. deaf/hoh -> deaf/hard of hearing
         2. t(w)eens -> teens/tweens
         3. lol -> laugh out loud (… not lots of love!)
         4. W.O.E. -> no, this is not a cry of misery, but simply "What On Earth!"
